The International Journal of Physical Modelling in Geotechnics will be published in the year of 2001. After a series of international conferences on geotechnical centrifuge testing, CENTRIFUGE 88, 91, and 94, ISSMGE Technical Committee 2 on Centrifuge Testing has announced its support of the new quarterly international journal at the occasion of CENTRIFUGE 98 in Tokyo. The new journal has been established in recognition of the urgent need for a dedicated journal publication in the area of physical modelling in geotechnics. Existing major journals in the area of geotechnical engineering tend to require complete research projects for their publications. In the area of physical modeling, however, the development of equipment and experimental procedures form a vital part of research and serve as useful information for physical modelers in the field of geotechnical engineering.
The International Journal of Physical Modelling in Geotechnics aims at covering all areas of physical modelling in geotechnics such as centrifuge model testing, 1g tests including shaking table tests, pressure chamber tests and geoenvironmental experiments but excluding field tests. The journal is also expected to bridge communications between numerical and physical modelling.
